How do I fix TV image ghosting and motion blur?

I've got a 55-inch Samsung from 2024 and when I watch sports or fast action movies, there's this trailing effect behind moving objects that's driving me nuts. I've already tried adjusting the motion smoothing settings but it's still pretty bad. Is this a panel limitation thing or am I missing something in the settings?

Most 2024 Samsung TVs have a "TruMotion" or "Motion Xcelerator" feature that's separate from the basic motion smoothing - try cranking that to high or custom mode, and also check if your refresh rate settings match your content (some sports broadcasts are 60Hz, so forcing 120Hz can actually make ghosting worse). If that doesn't help, it's likely a panel limitation since VA panels on budget-to-mid models have slower response times than IPS or OLED, which is pretty common at that price point.

I had the same issue with a 2024 Samsung and the ghosting thing is usually not a panel problem, it's just that the motion processing settings aren't quite right for that particular content. The previous answer about TruMotion is on track, but also check your HDMI input settings - sometimes the TV defaults to a lower refresh rate that makes motion worse, and switching to the highest available helps a lot. Beyond that, try turning *off* any "auto motion plus" or similar AI upscaling features (counterintuitive I know, but they can actually introduce lag), and if you're watching sports through a streaming app, see if that app has its own motion settings that might be conflicting. If it's still trailing after all that, it might genuinely be the panel, but most people find the fix somewhere in those settings first.
