Why does my Samsung TV keep restarting on its own?

I have a 55-inch Samsung that I bought about a year and a half ago, and for the past week it's been turning off and on by itself without me doing anything. I checked that the remote isn't damaged and I also restarted the TV from the menu, but it keeps happening. Could it be a software issue or something more serious?

Repeated restarts like that are almost never just a software thing, especially if you've already done a reset 🤔 My bet is there's a voltage problem in the power supply or some component that's overheating. Try this: unplug the TV completely for 30 seconds (don't just turn it off), then plug it back in and let it sit unused for an hour to see if it restarts when it's cold. If it keeps happening, you probably need to call Samsung tech support because it could be a hardware failure that needs internal inspection.

It's probably a software issue or updates that got stuck halfway through, especially if the TV is around a year and a half old. Try unplugging the TV completely from the power outlet for about 10 or 15 minutes (not just turning it off, but actually unplugging it), then plug it back in and go into settings to check if there are any pending updates. If that doesn't work and it keeps restarting, it's most likely a hard drive or motherboard failure that's already starting to damage, in which case your best bet would be to contact Samsung's technical support because it probably still has warranty coverage.

If you've already done a factory reset and it's still happening, most of the time it's a hardware fault rather than software. Here's a trick that doesn't usually get mentioned: unplug the TV completely for 30 minutes (don't just turn it off with the button), then plug it back in and before turning it on hold down the physical power button on the TV for about 10 seconds while it's unplugged. This completely clears the motherboard's memory and sometimes fixes weird restart cycles. If it keeps happening after that, it's very likely a blown capacitor in the power supply or a faulty temperature sensor, and in that case you'll need to take it to a repair shop.
