How do I recover files after accidentally deleting them permanently?

I deleted a folder with some important documents last week and emptied the recycle bin right after. Is there any way to get these files back, or are they gone forever? I'm using Windows 10 and haven't installed anything new since the deletion.

Stop using that drive immediately - every write operation overwrites the space where your files were, making recovery harder or impossible. Data recovery software like Recuva (free) or EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard can sometimes pull deleted files back if the sectors haven't been reused yet, so your best bet is running one of those tools right now. The longer you wait and the more you use your computer, the worse your chances get. If the software finds nothing or the files are corrupted, you might need to pay for professional recovery, but that's expensive and not always successful either.

Your best shot is recovery software, but the sooner you run it the better - every time your system writes anything to that drive, it overwrites the space where your files lived. I had a moment of panic a few years back when I accidentally trashed some old garden logs, and Recuva pulled them back without issue since I caught it quickly. The free version usually works fine for straightforward deletions like yours, though if that doesn't work, paid tools like EaseUS go deeper, but they cost money and aren't guaranteed to succeed if the drive's been actively used since the deletion.
