After 15 years in this profession I figured out that it's pretty hard to draw a clear line. You're working in a garage, hands covered in grease, your head's full of customers' problems - and before you know it, the shift's over, but your brain's still at work. What helps me is a simple ritual: I change clothes, wash up properly, put on some music on the way home or just sit in the car for 15 - 20 minutes before I go inside. You don't need to zone out for hours - just consciously switch gears so your brain gets that the shift is done. If you've got a family, this is especially important, otherwise you bring all that work irritation into the house.
I also noticed that having some specific hobby you actually enjoy helps - sports, fishing, whatever. Don't just sit around at home replaying work stuff in your head. Me for example, I'm done fixing cars for the day, so I pick up something completely different - even if it's just a walk with the dog. Your body literally needs that switch.
There's no universal amount of time - for some people half an hour's enough, some people need an hour. The main thing is don't ignore this need and don't get used to the idea that your whole life is just work. I've seen a lot of mechanics burn out because they never learned how to let work go after their shift. Take care of yourself, and you'll last way longer in this job.
It's super individual - some people only need 30 minutes to switch off, while others need the whole evening to get away from work stuff. I usually tell my girlfriends to set aside at least an hour for themselves to change clothes, wash up, have some tea and not carry work around in their heads all evening.
It turns out this isn't really about the dacha at all :) but honestly it depends on what kind of work. if it's physical or mental work - you need at least an hour to switch gears. like for me after the garden i don't rush straight into the house, first i clean up the tools and wash off. the main thing is just not to sit in one place too long, that's the whole secret really.
