How often should you clean and lubricate the chain?

What type of chain are we talking about, bike or motorcycle?

Assuming it's a bike, the answer depends on how much you use it and the conditions. If you ride regularly, cleaning every 2-3 weeks is fine, or whenever you notice it's visibly dirty or you hear strange noises. Lubrication ideally should be done every time you clean it, or at least once a month if you use it often. If it rains a lot where you live, increase the frequency because water washes away the lubricant.

The process is simple: remove the gross dirt with a brush (or an old toothbrush), then clean with a cloth. Once it's dry, apply chain-specific lubricant - don't use generic oil because it attracts too much dirt. One drop per chain link is more than enough. Spin the pedals to distribute the product, then wipe off the excess with a cloth.

If you use it rarely or leave it sitting for weeks, cleaning and lubricating every 1-2 months is sufficient. The important thing is not to let it rust: a clean and well-lubricated chain lasts much longer.
