Inkjet printer keeps asking for cartridges even though there's ink

I bought a Canon PIXMA a few months ago. Lately I keep getting a message about low ink levels even though I just refilled the cartridges. It prints fine, but this error is really annoying. Is this normal or is there already a problem with the sensor?
