I have one sitting in a drawer for years and I was wondering if I could use it again. I changed the battery recently but I don't know if it's worth trying to update it or if it's already too old for anything.
At this point the S3 is more of a collector's item than a functional phone. It runs Android 4.1 or 4.3 if you bought it late, and almost no modern apps will install on such old versions; plus, a lot of websites won't even load properly. If you actually want to use it you'd need something way more recent, but if you're just looking for a backup device without any important connectivity, go ahead, replacing the battery is already something you can do.
The truth is it's pretty much dead for everyday use in 2026. Most apps won't even install, the ones that do work run super slow, and there haven't been security updates for like a decade. Maybe it's good as a backup or for something really basic like a flashlight, but that's about it.
