I'd say it's not just pure marketing BS, but it's also not the game-changer some people promise it to be. All those features like "open your fridge and see what's inside without actually opening it" sound cooler than they actually work in practice. You don't really save energy that way - it depends way more on how often you open the door and whether you even manage to store stuff properly.

What can actually be useful: temperature control via app and notifications when the door's been open too long or the temperature's off. But that's just add-on features for an appliance you're buying anyway. You're paying massive extra for that at €1500 more. I know people who have this stuff, and honestly? After the first two weeks, they ignore the apps and notifications. A fridge mainly needs to work reliably - I'd rather invest in a solid brand without all the smart bells and whistles and spend the money on something else that makes more sense.

If you really want to save money, pay attention to the energy efficiency rating (A++, A+++) and the size - not the display. And if the smart features really do appeal to you, then treat them more as a nice bonus on a fridge you'd like anyway, not the main reason to buy it.
