Is it bad to eat carbs at night?

I've been trying to lose weight for about 3 months now, and my sister tells me not to eat bread, rice, or pasta after 6 PM. I work until 8, and I normally have dinner with carbs because otherwise I'm starving. Does the time I eat really matter, or is it just a myth?

What matters is the total calories you eat during the day, not what time you eat them! Your sister's wrong about that timing thing. If you work until 8 and you're hungry, eat carbs at dinner no problem - what's relevant is that you don't exceed your daily calorie intake if you're trying to lose weight. Some studies suggest digestion is just as efficient at night, so eating carbs for dinner won't sabotage anything as long as you maintain a total calorie deficit.
