Is it normal for a friend to stop inviting me to things?

For a couple of years now, I've noticed my best friend organizes dinners, movie nights, trips with other people but hardly ever calls me. Whenever we see each other, it's always me who has to reach out to make plans. At first I thought he was just busy, but I can see from his Instagram stories that he goes out regularly. It hurts that he excludes me like this.

It's not really "normal" in the sense that it happens to everyone the same way, but it's a situation a lot of people go through and it genuinely hurts. The fact that he goes out regularly but doesn't include you is annoying, I get it. But before I give you a straight answer, you need to ask yourself if something's changed between you two - maybe he misunderstood something you talked about, or he thought you were mad at him, or he just lost touch. Sometimes friendships cool off like that, without any real reason, just from a bunch of small misunderstandings.

What I'd suggest is having a serious conversation with him, not a passive-aggressive one. Don't attack him by saying "I see you go out with everyone except me," but like, tell him that you've noticed you don't see each other much and that you miss him, and that you'd like to understand if there's something wrong between you two. Maybe he didn't even realize! There are people who are genuinely thoughtless with their friends and don't mean to hurt anyone - it's not an excuse, but it helps to figure out if this friendship is worth saving.

If he keeps acting like this after that conversation, then you know you're not a priority for him and you can start putting your energy into people who actually want to be around you. It's not mean, it's just taking care of yourself! A friendship should go both ways.
