I'm keen to get into this FPV drone building hobby, but I'm not sure if it's worth it anymore. The most important thing is to start with a complete but cheap kit, like those beginner FPV drones that go for something between 200 and 400 reais, don't fall into the trap of going straight for expensive gear. People who say it got expensive usually skipped this step and went straight to buying premium parts, expensive VR headsets, multiple imported batteries. The truth is you can learn the basics without breaking the bank.
Now, additional equipment is real, but it's not as much as people say. You need extra batteries (like 3 or 4, around 20-30 reais each), a decent charger (something like 50-80 reais), maybe FPV goggles if you want the full experience (the price varies a lot on that). But all that together you can set up on a reasonable budget if you take your time. The important thing is to test whether you actually enjoy it before dropping serious money on a transmitter, premium goggles and all that.
The viability for someone just starting is pretty good, but with a catch: be prepared to crash the drone several times, because that's part of learning. There's a lot of tutorials and a cool Brazilian community that helps out. The truth is that by 2026 beginner FPV drones got way more affordable than they were a few years back, so if you have genuine interest, it's worth trying. Just don't spend a ton of money the first time around.
