Do you already play an instrument or is it more just curiosity? It's definitely worth it if you're actually going to use it, because a portable synthesizer these days is pretty affordable and actually works well - it's not a toy. But honestly, if it's just to experiment, it might make more sense to rent one first or look for a used one so you don't waste money.

I've been playing piano for years, so it's more about expanding. Thanks for the suggestion about renting, I'll look into that option.
