Is it worth buying a smart doorbell in 2026?

I'm thinking about putting a smart doorbell on my apartment door, but I'm not sure if it's really worth spending the money. I wanted to know if brands like Positivo Smart or imported ones work well here in Brazil, and if it doesn't end up being too expensive when it comes to dealing with the Wi-Fi.

The biggest issue is having stable Wi-Fi close to your door, because a smart doorbell that keeps losing connection is just frustrating. Domestic brands like Positivo Smart do work, but imported ones like Ring or Nest usually have better camera quality and more features; the price difference nowadays isn't that crazy. Honestly, if you already have good Wi-Fi coverage and want something more basic (just to see who's ringing), Positivo does the job, but if you want to do recordings and use more advanced features, it's worth spending a bit more. As for Wi-Fi costs, it won't change your internet bill - it's basically nothing.

A smart doorbell makes sense if you actually take advantage of the features. If it's just to see who's ringing, honestly, a regular doorbell already does that. Now, if you want to get notifications on your phone when someone rings, record videos of people coming to the door, or integrate it with other smart devices, then it's worth it.

About brands: the imported ones (like Ring, Logitech) tend to be more stable with better apps, but they cost a lot. National ones like Positivo Smart are cheaper and work perfectly fine here if you have decent Wi-Fi coverage. The cost of "dealing with Wi-Fi" itself is zero - it's just connecting to the network you already have. What really matters is having the router reasonably close to the door or with decent signal there; if the signal is weak, the doorbell gets slow or loses connection, and that's frustrating.

My suggestion: before buying, test the Wi-Fi signal at your apartment door with your phone. If it's good, go ahead; if it's weak, it won't work well regardless of the brand. And check out specific reviews for the brand you're thinking about - they vary a lot in reliability.
