The cost of "dealing with Wi-Fi" itself is zero - it's just connecting to the network you already have. My suggestion: before buying, test the Wi-Fi signal at your apartment door with your phone. If it's good, go ahead; if it's weak, it won't work well regardless of the brand. And check out specific reviews for the brand you're thinking about - they vary a lot in reliability.
