Is it worth buying an air fryer or is it just marketing hype?

I've been wanting to get an air fryer for about 6 months now because my mom won't stop talking about hers. She says it saves on electricity and the food comes out almost as good as deep fried. But I'm hesitant to spend the money if it's just going to be some passing fad in the end. Can someone who actually uses one tell me if it's worth the investment?

I've got one at home and honestly I use it way more than I thought I would, especially when I'm craving something crispy without the hassle of frying in oil.

The power consumption is pretty much less than a regular oven, and even though the food isn't identical to deep-fried stuff, it comes pretty close, especially with fries and chicken.

It's not just a passing trend if you think of it as a replacement for a traditional oven or a deep fryer - if your mom uses it all the time, you'll probably end up using it all the time too. My recommendation is don't drop cash on some crazy expensive model at first, but if you find something at a decent price, it's worth giving a shot.
