Is it worth upgrading to Wi-Fi 7 router in 2026?

My current setup is a 2-year-old mesh system that covers my place fine, but I keep seeing Wi-Fi 7 routers everywhere now. Would it actually make a difference for streaming, gaming, and video calls, or is it just marketing? My ISP gives me around 300 Mbps download speeds if that matters.

With the setup I've got at home, I noticed that once you're hitting those speeds reliably across your mesh network, the jump to Wi-Fi 7 doesn't really move the needle for everyday streaming or calls - you're already covered. Wi-Fi 7 shines when you're pushing way more bandwidth than your ISP is actually delivering, like if you had gigabit speeds and tons of devices hammering the network simultaneously. Since your 2-year-old mesh system is doing the job fine, you'd be throwing money at a problem that doesn't exist yet, and by the time Wi-Fi speeds matter more than your ISP's pipe, your router will be fine anyway.
