We're getting quotes for upgrading our loft insulation and everyone keeps pushing spray foam these days. It's about £2k more than traditional rockwool, but they say it'll seal air gaps better. Has anyone actually done this in an older house and noticed a real difference in heating bills?
spray foam does seal better than rockwool, but honestly for a 70s semi it might be overkill. the real gains come from just getting decent coverage - rockwool will do that fine if they install it properly. if your loft's already a mess with gaps everywhere then yeah foam makes sense, but if it's just thin/patchy insulation then rockwool + draft tape around hatches/pipes gets you like 80% of the benefit for way less cash. check what your actual air leakage situation is before dropping 2k extra.
