Should I actually close the toilet lid when I flush or does it not matter?

Apparently flushing releases a cloud of particles into the air that can spread germs, and get this - closing the lid doesn't really stop it from happening. Scientists are saying these tiny particles can float around and be breathable. So all those people telling you to close the lid might have been thinking about it the wrong way. It's a bit gross to think about but worth knowing if you care about hygiene in your bathroom.

Do you actually spend time worrying about this stuff? Close the lid anyway - yeah, some particles still escape, but you're definitely reducing what gets airborne compared to leaving it wide open, and it's such a basic habit that there's no reason not to do it!

The "particles escape anyway" thing gets overstated - closing the lid still cuts down what launches into your bathroom air, which matters if you share the space with other people or just want less gross stuff settling on your toothbrush. It's one of those things that takes zero effort so might as well do it.
