There's this new thing called 'adversarial clothing' that's supposedly designed to confuse facial recognition systems. Is this actually becoming a thing people can buy? And like, when would you even need this in everyday life?
It's real stuff but honestly for most people it's not practical or necessary. Unless you're genuinely concerned about mass surveillance or you work in security testing, you probably don't need to worry about it - facial recognition in everyday situations like airports or phones uses pretty standard systems that work fine with normal clothes. The adversarial clothing thing is more interesting from a tech perspective than something the average person needs to actually buy, kind of like how we all know theoretically we could make our own fishing lures but most of us just grab them from the shop.
Unless you're doing something that actually requires it, nah you dont need to worry about it. ive been driving for 15 years and the only cameras that matter to me are the ones in my cab and on highways. facial recognition at tolls or whatever doesn't bother me because im not doing anything wrong. the clothes are real but theyre kind of a solution looking for a problem for regular people.
the practical side is these things look pretty weird and obvious, which defeats the purpose anyway. if you're wearing some crazy patterned jacket specifically designed to break facial rec, you're gonna stand out way more than your face would. plus theyre not even that reliable at actually fooling the systems. tech companies are constantly updating their software so what works today might not work next month.
only time i'd say think about this is if youre genuinely paranoid about surveillance for legitimate privacy reasons, or maybe if youre into infosec and testing this stuff. for everyone else just live your life. way more practical to worry about your phone's location tracking or what data companies are actually collecting from you voluntarily through apps and websites
