What's the best value electric bike in 2026?

I'm thinking about buying an e-bike to use every day here in São Paulo, but I don't want to spend a fortune. I've seen some brands like Caloi and Monark with electric models, but I'm not sure if they're worth it or if there's something better. Does anyone have experience with this?

National brands like Caloi and Monark are kinda meh on value for money - pricier parts to fix and batteries that aren't always reliable. The best bang for your buck is with Chinese brands that sell directly here, like Elgin, Sense, or even imported ones that work out cheaper than those traditional brands, depending on the range you need. For São Paulo, I'd recommend looking at models with removable batteries (easier to charge at home) and more robust tires to handle potholes and traffic. It's worth spending a bit extra on one with a decent battery than getting a cheap one that dies in six months.
