I have an Xbox 360 that I bought back in 2009 and it freezes a lot when I'm playing Gears of War 3 or Call of Duty. I've already cleaned out the dust inside and nothing helped. Could it be the hard drive that's having issues or is it a defect with the console itself?
Don't try formatting the hard drive or reinstalling the operating system yet - before you do that, test if the problem also happens with other games, because if it's only those two it's more likely a scratched disc or corrupted cache from the game itself 🎮 A 2009 Xbox 360 could also have a clogged fan even after surface cleaning, then the console overheats and freezes; take it apart again and check if the heatsink is actually clean. If it freezes on several different games, then it could be a worn-out hard drive or even the Red Ring of Death, but start by testing on other titles first.
