Expert Prokhorov: High PC Memory Prices Will Persist Until 2028

Memory is pretty expensive right now, but if you're planning to build a PC in the next few months, it only makes sense to wait if you're not in a hurry - prices will drop, but not anytime soon. I'd say if you need a computer now, it's better to grab RAM now than to sit around for half a year without a machine hoping for a 10-15% discount.

You should pay attention to how much RAM you actually need. I've noticed that a lot of people buy more than necessary when upgrading, betting on the future - and then end up changing their setup a couple years down the road anyway. If you're planning to build in the coming months, it makes sense to just buy what you need right now instead of waiting for RAM prices to drop, which you might not even need in the end.

Plus, in 2026 even if prices do fall, it's a slow process. I remember waiting for component prices to come down before upgrading myself - I just wasted time in the end. Right now if you need DDR4 or DDR5 memory, the price difference between upgrading in July and, say, September won't be significant enough to put off building because of it.

The only exception is if you've got no deadline and you're willing to actually wait until the end of the year or beyond - maybe something will drop then. But don't count on a sharp crash. Just buy what you need and build.
