How can I control my TV from anywhere with my smartphone?
I have a Samsung Smart TV from 2024 and I'd like to skip using the remote. Can I do that with an app or do I need to buy something special? Does it work when I'm not at home?

You definitely don't need to buy anything - Samsung TVs can be controlled through the SmartThings app, which is free and works both on your home WiFi and from anywhere else, as long as your TV is connected to the internet. You just need to sign in to the app with your Samsung account and add your TV, then you can operate it like you would with a regular remote. A few things might not work quite as smoothly via the app as they do with the original remote (some quick inputs can lag), but for most tasks it works perfectly fine.
Don't completely ditch the official remote - you'll need it eventually for random buttons that the app doesn't have. SmartThings works fine, but here's a small trick: if you want to control your TV from away often, explicitly enable "External Control" or "Mobile Access" in your TV's settings - some Samsung models don't have that turned on by default and then the app works frustratingly inconsistently. Once you do that, remote control works way more reliably when you're away, without having to hack into your home WiFi or anything like that.
