How do I get my kids to actually listen without yelling?

My 7 and 9 year old just completely ignore me when I ask them to do stuff like brush their teeth or pick up their toys. I end up raising my voice every single time before they actually do anything. I feel like I'm constantly frustrated and I know yelling isn't the answer, but I don't know what else works.

The ignore-until-you-yell cycle usually means they've learned that yelling is when you actually mean it, so they're tuning you out earlier. Try getting physically closer, making eye contact, and waiting for them to acknowledge you before you give the instruction - then follow up within a reasonable timeframe with a natural consequence rather than anger (no screens tomorrow if teeth don't get brushed tonight, that kind of thing). Kids that age respond way better to calm consistency than volume, but it takes a few weeks of them realizing you're serious without raising your voice before the habit breaks.
