I have some Sony headphones that are about 5 years old and the sound comes out muffled, especially the treble. I've tried cleaning them and replacing the ear pads, but it's still the same. Is there anything else I can do before buying new ones?
Sometimes when headphones age, the drivers degrade and cleaning isn't enough, so what you can try is opening up the shell (if you're brave!) and checking if there's dust accumulated directly on the driver's diaphragm - sometimes a careful blow makes all the difference. Another thing is to try equalizers on your phone or computer, lots of apps have presets that can compensate for those muffled highs and give them new life without spending a euro. If nothing works, well, after 5 years honestly it's time to upgrade, but it's worth trying first!
