I lost access to my Bitcoin wallet because I forgot the password and didn't save the seed phrase somewhere safe. Is there any way to recover it or are the coins lost forever? I have about 0.5 BTC in there.
Unfortunately, if you don't have your seed phrase written down anywhere, your coins are basically lost - wallet encryption is specifically designed to be impossible to bypass. The only chance is if your wallet supports recovery through email or two-factor authentication (but that only works on centralized platforms like exchanges, not self-custodied wallets like MetaMask or Electrum). What kind of wallet were you using - an app, an online service, or a hardware wallet?
Unfortunately, without the seed phrase or private key, there's really no way around it - the coins are stuck there forever. Your only hope would be if the wallet has some recovery option you set up beforehand (like email or backup), but most wallets don't offer that precisely because of security reasons.
