How to get a restaurant to refund me if the food isn't what I ordered

I went to a restaurant with some friends yesterday and ordered a dish that looked amazing in the menu photo, but when it arrived it was completely different and cold on top of that. I told the waiter and he said there was nothing he could do about it. Do I have the right to complain or ask for them to swap it out?

Of course you're right, the waiter gave you a pretty weak excuse. If the dish arrived cold or didn't match what you ordered, you can ask the manager to swap it for free or give you a discount on the bill - that's the bare minimum a restaurant should offer. If they refuse, you can leave an honest review on Google or social media explaining what happened, and if it's serious enough, contact your local consumer protection office to file a formal complaint.
