I have a gas boiler that's about 15 years old and it's been giving me problems. My neighbor says I should switch to a condensing one because it uses way less gas, but I'm not sure if the upfront cost is worth it. Does anyone have experience with this?
I went through the same thing last year when mine started failing, and yeah, the condensing boiler has brought my gas bill down quite a bit, even though the upfront cost was higher. If your boiler is already 15 years old it's at the end of its useful life anyway, so the extra expense for condensing technology ends up paying for itself in a year or two through the savings on consumption, especially if you have long winters where you live.
