Office scanner not reading colored documents properly

I've had a Brother scanner for a few years now and lately when it scans flyers or documents with bright colors, the image comes out dark and you can't read anything. I've tried cleaning the glass and turning up the brightness in the settings but nothing works. Could it be dirty inside? Should I take it to service or would it be better to replace it?

Try checking the CIS sensors (the light filaments inside the scanner) because they often get clogged with dust and don't pick up bright colors well, especially if the scanner's in a dusty environment. You can open the top cover and give the sensors themselves a gentle clean with a slightly damp cloth (not wet), being careful not to touch the glass underneath. If that doesn't help, it's probably worth taking it to a service center instead of replacing it right away, because it could just be a calibration issue or sensors that need professional cleaning, and repair costs are usually pretty reasonable.
