Making essential repairs before selling is almost always more profitable than letting the buyer handle it. Inspections often reveal defects that drastically lower offers, so it's better to fix major issues (roof, plumbing, electrical) rather than negotiate down. For minor cosmetic stuff like paint or flooring, it's less critical - a lot of people prefer to customize that themselves. Find a good inspector to pinpoint exactly what needs work before you decide.
Leaving everything as is is risky - an inspector will find stuff and the buyer is going to negotiate hard on price. After that, it really depends on what needs fixing: major work (roof, electrical), you should handle that before. For small cosmetic stuff, it's less urgent. The balance is doing just what's going to block the sale or cost you a lot in price cuts.
