Tape measure won't lock properly - is it fixable?

My Stanley tape measure has gotten pretty loose and the locking mechanism doesn't hold anymore. I've dropped it a few times from the tool belt. Can I fix this myself or should I just buy a new one? It's been pretty reliable until now.

Don't bother trying to take apart the locking pawl mechanism inside - it's way too fiddly and you'll just lose tiny springs. Honestly, a new tape measure is like 15 bucks and will save you the headache, especially if yours has taken a few drops already.
