A lot depends on whether you'd rather invest in longer gaming experiences or just power through something quickly. The bigger titles obviously get a ton of attention, but especially with the Switch it's worth checking out smaller studios that actually developed specifically for the hardware - they just run smoother and don't feel like ports as much. If you need concrete recommendations, it helps to ask around in communities or try out a few demos yourself, because taste really varies a lot from person to person.

Check out Metacritic or OpenCritic, you'll quickly see which titles are doing well right now. Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom was solid, and there are always these smaller indie gems that deserve more attention than the big blockbusters. What's your thing exactly - more action, adventure, or puzzles?

I bought a few titles this year and have to say a lot of it really depends on the genre - if you like RPGs, there's definitely some solid stuff out there, but action-adventures are pretty thin on the ground. Instead of staring at Metascores, I'd rather look at what kind of games you actually play, and then search specifically in forums or on YouTube for long-term impressions - the first couple hours often don't tell you much. What kind of stuff appeals to you more, or are you looking for something to chill out with between gaming sessions?

laura84 asker I'm interested in RPGs, but also good action-adventures. Rather demanding games, not relaxation titles.

What kind of games do you like to play - are you more into relaxing stuff or something that really challenges you? Personally, YouTube has been a big help for me: I just watch short gameplay clips from channels that specifically test Switch games instead of just reading random reviews. That way you can tell much faster whether the pace and mechanics appeal to you.

What a lot of people don't do: try out demo versions. A lot of bigger titles on Switch have demos in the eShop, and with those you can really test whether the controls feel right for you and the game appeals to you visually. That saves you a lot of frustration and buying games you regret.

laura84 asker I like both - relaxed and challenging. I'm happy to take YouTube recommendations, checking out demos is smart. Thanks!
