A folk song that shows up in 10 different videos becomes instantly recognizable, people search for it, and suddenly that stuff your grandparents listened to is back in fashion, even if the context is totally different. TikTok also made it possible for very local things to reach outside their territory without any filtering, because all it takes is one creator using it and you're done.
