If the mechanic checked the brakes and they're fine, you most likely have an alignment or steering issue. When you apply hard braking, weight transfers forward, but if the alignment is off, that movement can magnify the car's tendency to pull to one side, especially if there's uneven wear on the brake pads or rotors that isn't visible to the naked eye. It could also be that the sway bar has play in it or the suspension arms are worn out, which makes the car less stable under braking. I'd recommend getting a full alignment and having them specifically check the front suspension, because that really does affect how the car behaves when you brake hard.
