I've already had exactly the same happen to me - I send a message that seems clear and the guy interprets it completely differently. But honestly, I think it's more coincidence than anything related to planets. Mercury retrograde is a real phenomenon in terms of how we see the planet from space, but there's no scientific basis showing that it affects terrestrial communications or people's behaviour.

The problem is that when we look for explanations for what goes wrong, the brain likes to find patterns. If you have a series of misunderstandings and you hear about Mercury retrograde during that period, it all gets connected in your head. But if you pay close attention, you probably have mix-ups on WhatsApp at any time of year - it's just that you only remember them when there's an astrological "explanation" around.

Basically, if something's going wrong with your messages, the trick is to be clearer and more direct - write shorter sentences, confirm that the other person actually understood, those basic things. It really works, regardless of what Mercury is doing up there.
