Does USB-C make a real difference for wired headphone audio quality?

I've been using the same 3.5mm jack headphones for like 5 years, and my phone doesn't have one anymore. I'm looking at getting USB-C wired headphones, but I'm wondering if they actually sound noticeably better or if it's just marketing hype. Would it be worth switching from my old pair?

Don't expect USB-C itself to magically improve sound quality - the connector type doesn't really matter. What *can* make a difference is that USB-C headphones often have a dedicated DAC (digital-to-analog converter) built in, which processes audio better than your phone's internal chip, especially if you're using a cheaper phone. That said, if your current headphones still work fine and sound good to you, switching won't be some night-and-day revelation. It's worth upgrading if your old pair is dying anyway, but don't buy new ones specifically chasing audio quality gains from the connector.
