How do I fix a friendship after a big fight?

I had a pretty bad fight with my best friend three weeks ago over a misunderstanding with a girl. Since then we haven't talked - we just see each other in the WhatsApp group but don't interact. Honestly, it hurts because we've been friends for over 10 years and I feel like I messed up. Is there a way to fix it without it sounding forced?

The first thing is that someone has to make the first move, and to be honest, if you feel like you messed up, that could be you - a straightforward message, no cheap excuses or endless explanations, just "hey, I've missed talking to you, I regret how things went down and I want to fix this" works so much better than waiting for the perfect moment that never comes. After 10 years together the friendship can handle an awkward conversation, and most friends value the courage of trying to make it right more than how perfectly you do it.

Three weeks is quite a bit of time but it's not beyond repair, especially with someone you've been friends with for over a decade. The thing is, misunderstandings with girls are so common that most people get that's where things went sideways, not between you two as friends. Send him something short in a private message - not in the group chat - like "hey, I miss talking to you, this thing got out of hand and I want to fix it" without getting into re-explaining all the drama with the girl or going crazy trying to justify yourself. Whether he responds or not is on him after that, but at least you get the weight off your shoulders and show him that the friendship matters more to you than being right in a fight.
