How do you catalog and track a large vintage toy collection?

I've got around 300 action figures and toy cars scattered across my garage, and I'm losing track of what I actually own. Some are still in boxes, others are loose. What's the best way to document everything - spreadsheet, app, database? I'd like to know condition, purchase price, and where each item is stored.
