Why not - people meet through way weirder channels anyway, right? BeReal shows a genuine moment of someone's life without filters, so if he decided to message you, it means at least there's some interest there. Nothing strange about it, just an unusual way to go about it. If you actually like the guy - go ahead and reply. But if something about the message or his profile feels off to you, there's no point trying to talk yourself into it.

I don't think you should assume he's joking around - if it were just a prank, he wouldn't bother switching to Telegram and keeping the conversation going. My friend actually started a whole relationship through some random game on her phone, and now they've been together for a few years, so meeting someone through an app is pretty common and not weird at all. The main thing is just not to rush and see how things develop between you, without getting your hopes too high.
