Is it normal that my daughter still uses MSN?

My dog loves being close to me when I'm on my phone, and sometimes I see him touching the screen by accident. But getting back to your problem, using MSN in 2026 is pretty rare honestly. Most people switched over to WhatsApp, Instagram, Discord or other apps years ago. MSN basically died as an active platform.

If your daughter is still using it, it could be that she has some contacts there who didn't easily migrate, or maybe it's just an old habit she hasn't dropped. But it's definitely unusual for someone who's growing up now. It's worth talking to her to understand why - could be that she's missing messages from friends or family who are trying to reach her elsewhere, you know?

I think the most practical thing is to suggest she install an app that everyone actually uses, like WhatsApp or whatever her friends are using at school or work. It's not a serious problem, but she's definitely a bit outdated. If she has friends on different platforms, it just makes life easier for her to have everything in one place.

The truth is, it really depends on how she's using it. If the girl is on a private server or emulator, that makes sense - there are people who absolutely love that old MSN interface, it's genuinely nostalgic. But if she's trying to use the original platform, it doesn't work anymore because Microsoft shut everything down in 2014. Most likely it's one of those alternative clients like Escargot or WLM Forever that simulate the old MSN, which is completely legitimate.

I don't see this as a problem, honestly. Lots of people use retro programs for the charm, it's like preferring vinyl over Spotify 😄 The important thing is knowing whether she's aware it's not the real platform and that security might not be the best (depending on the server). If she's just with friends in a private community and feels comfortable, let it be. There are way worse things than a girl using a legacy MSN client.
